Founded in May 2009 (an idea forged in a chemotherapy lounge), The Raven Theatre Company's mission is to create playful, intelligent theatre and experiences for the story curious.
The following May, Patio/Porch by Jack Heifner was produced for a short run at the Above The Stag Theatre. In August 2010, the company wrote a new piece for the Camden Fringe Festival: Madame Everleigh's Love Emporium which tapped into the company's darker edge. In Summer 2011 the company wrote and produced The Untimely Death of Mr. String. Click to read reviews here and here! For these three productions The Raven Theatre Company have been lucky enough to collaborate with the creative talents of Andrea Cullum (musical director and writer) and Fruition Arts (Lighting Design and Stage Management).
The company have produced several literary events - A Victorian Christmas in December 2009 and 2010, Forbidden Love in February 2010, Mome Raths, Maugrim, and Moon-Face in April 2010, A Nautical Night in September 2010, A VE Day Celebration in May 2011, and A Wartime Christmas in December 2011. These nights celebrate stories old and new and are infused with fun and music, allowing actors to exercise their skills at storytelling. It has also allowed an opportunity to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Since their inception, the Raven Theatre Company has raised over £1,700 for Cancer charities.
In January 2010 The Raven's Secret Reading Club was formed. This monthly gathering surrounds the reproduction of cult and classic TV and film scripts and plays. The night allows drama students, professional actors (and people who just want to have a go!) to read aloud and meet like-minded souls in an informal pub setting (currently The Miller Pub in London Bridge).
The directors, Laura Rugg and Jade Allen, both graduated from Rose Bruford College with a BA (HONS) in American Theatre Arts in 2004. As well as both having theatre credits with The Raven Theatre Company both have substantial theatre credits from the London and Edinburgh Fringe. Both have been back to Rose Bruford to teach Drama and American Theatre Arts students.
Laura co-founded Shady Dolls Theatre Company in 2004 and produced and performed in the World Premiere of Homestead and the European Premiere of The Erotica Project. She also founded Get Happy Comedy Club. Jade's recent theatre credits include 'Petunia' in Pig in Boots (The Wireless Theatre Company), 'Harper' in Angels in America (Phoenix Theatre Company) and 'Clown' in 14 Seconds, also with The Wireless Theatre company at the Edinburgh Fringe. Jade is also resident actress of award winning comedy sketch group In the Meantime..., performing at various venues around London.
